The folklore group Hauser was founded in 1949 by the brothers Josef, Hans and Sebastian Hauser. Besides these men Engelbert Köck and Otto Hechenberger have also been active members.
Soon there was much demand for the performances of the “Platter” group. (“platteln” means slapping on your legs and feet). They were successful all over the country and joined by two girls who would jodel and sing.In The year 1955 the group was accomplished by another six girls and therefore able to perform a complete Tyrolean evening.
Hans Hauser soon turned out to be the most enthusiastic and was declared chairman from 1957 until now. Due to his personal effort the group achieved a very good reputation. This success went hand in hand with the reliability and idealism of the group’s members. A group can just be as good as its members.
The biggest progress took place in the seventies. The engagements became more numerous, as did the members. Additionally tour offers from foreign countries came in every year:
1977 a tragic car accident killed 4 persons, including two brothers of the chairman; another person was injured heavily.
In 1974 the first LP of the folklore group Hauser was released, and in 1987 a golden LP was given to the Hauser group. They have been the first folklore group in Austria who got such a prize4.
The first time on television has been in 1989 with the “Hahnenkamm Trio” and the “Kitzbühler Dirndeln”. Dancing there also show master Karl Moik of the “Musikantenstadl” (a big TV show in Austria, Germany and Switzerland) could see the abilities and professionalism of the group. Since then the Hauser group has been part of his show for about 15 times and could also be seen on other TV shows all around Europe. Some of the most impressive events have been the Musikantenstadl at Cottbus (former DDR) after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Musikantenstadl in Melbourne (Australia).
There is also a youth group of the folklore group Hauser since 1975. It was lead by Robert Hauser between 1976 and 1997. Now it is lead by Andrea Hauser, Hans Hauser jjun and Hans Hauser jun., who is also the head of the adult group since 1997. This youth group has been on television for several times, as for example in the Musikantenstadl in St. Johann in 1993, in Innsbruck in 1996 or the “Licht ins Dunkel Gala” in Vienna in 1995. The aim of the youth group is to teach the children (age 6-14) in their weekly rehearsals traditional dances, to sing and play music with them and also to have fun and do some outdoor activities like hiking.
The folklore group Hauser has now 85 members, of which 23 are in the youth group. There are about 100 Tyrolean evenings a year, concentrating on the region of Kitzbühel.
